A condition characterized by an extremely shortened spine or vertebral column as a result of compression of vertebrae. Instead of hardening to form bone, the vertebrae remain in the cartilage form resulting in the vertebral compression and severe shortening of the whole spine. Some vertebrae fused together making the spine less flexible. The head is usually tilted to the right and the dog appears to have no neck. The dog’s tail appears twisted and much shorter than normal, covered with tangled hair. With the limbs incorrectly positioned, affected dogs experience mobility difficulties; however, they are expected to live a relatively normal lifespan.
