Species: Dog
Condition: Renal Dysplasia
Organ System: Urogenital

It is a hereditary condition characterized by the abnormal development of one or both kidneys. Affected kidneys are frequently smaller than normal and incapable of performing optimum function. Most cases occur in older puppies, but can affect puppies under six months old. Distinct signs include increased thirst and urination. Severe cases are generally life-threatening, and patients where both kidneys are involved usually die within one year of age. If only one kidney is affected, the patient may live a normal life.
