Species: Dog
Condition: Pancreatitis
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Pancreatitis is a disorder in which your dog’s pancreas essentially eats itself. As the pancreatic tissue dies, it releases toxins into the bloodstream, which causes even more damage. If your dog has pancreatitis the early symptoms may include depression, vomiting and diarrhoea, which, if left untreated may develop into severe abdominal pain, shock and fainting. The symptoms are likely to be worst if your dog eats fatty food. If your vet confirms your pet has pancreatitis, they will recommend treatment to restore your dog’s fluid and electrolyte balance, together with pain relief and if necessary antibiotics.
