Species: Dog
Condition: Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

A group of hereditary disorders affecting the growing end parts of the long bones. As a result, affected bones remain shorter than normal and are usually deformed. Symptoms start occurring at a young age; the dogs are experiencing pain and are therefore acquiring unusual body positions; they are often limping. They start suffering from knee and hip issues at an early age. The vet will diagnose this condition through examination of the dog with the help of X-ray imaging. In severe cases surgery is recommended, but otherwise the condition can be managed with painkillers and weight control. Affected animals should not be bred.
