Lupus erythematosus is a group of conditions in which your dog’s body identifies a part of itself as a threat and mounts an inappropriate immune response. Two varieties have been noted in dogs, systemic, and cutaneous. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is rare but severe. The immune reaction affects the whole body which means that symptoms can include arthritis, kidney disease, anaemia, and skin disease. Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is viewed as being less severe in that it only affects the skin. Both conditions can be treated but SLE does claim a high mortality rate, whereas CLE can often be contained.
