Species: Dog
Condition: Hydrocephalus
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which there is excessive fluid in the brain, which creates pressure leading to a number of health and behavioural problems. This disorder mainly affects dogs with short heads such as: Boston terrier; British bulldog; French bulldog; Lhasa apso; Pekingese; Pug; Shar-pei; Shih tzu; Cavalier King Charles spaniel and Staffordshire bull terrier. Pups with this disorder are likely to be small and have a particularly domed skull. Physical symptoms include restlessness, aimless walking, problems with vision, and seizures. The options for treatment depend on the severity of the condition.
