Species: Dog
Condition: Chronic Hepatitis
Organ System: Cardiovascular

Chronic hepatitis is the collective name for a group of liver disorders characterized by inflammation and death of liver tissue. There are many possible causes, including bacterial and viral infections, however there are some breeds with a predisposition to these conditions. The early signs of liver damage are vague and may be attributed to other causes. These include: loss of appetite, vomiting, weight loss, depression, lethargy, and/or increased drinking. By the time your dog shows symptoms typical of liver damage, such as jaundice, the damage is likely to be advanced. Your vet will discuss the specific options available for your dog.
