Species: Dog
Condition: Scotty Cramp
Organ System: Respiratory

Scotty Cramp as its name suggests affects Scottish Terries and also Norwich terriers. The symptoms become apparent in younger dogs (between 2 and 18 months of age) and are generally only noticeable during exercise. Depending on the severity of the condition, symptoms may range from walking awkwardly to serious muscle spasms. The condition is caused by a lack of serotonin which assists in the transmission of information between the nerves and the brain. Although this condition can not be cured, it can be managed through a combination of avoiding situations which trigger the episodes and using medication as required.
