Species: Dog
Condition: Cutaneous Lymphoma
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Cutaneous lymphoma is an uncommon type of lymphoma in dogs. It is manifested by hair loss accompanied by visible bumps on the affected areas of the skin. The condition also affects the gums, lips, and foot pads. The lesions are itchy and may appear as a single lump or large areas of bruised skin that may be hairless and/or ulcerated. Although they affect only the skin and mucus membranes, the lymphoma may be an indication of a systemic problem. A biopsy can help diagnose the problem particularly when a dog is not responding to treatment. Treatment will depend on the extent of the lesions. Surgery or radiation therapy may be indicated for single lesions. Chemotherapy may be indicated for generalized forms of the lymphoma.
