Species: Dog
Condition: Urolithiasis
Organ System: Urogenital
Urolithiasis is a condition in which crystals which should be expelled in your dog’s urine, clump together to form stones, which can not be expelled. Although they can be found anywhere in the urinary tract, they are most common in the bladder or in the urethra (the tube which connects the bladder to the genitals) where they can cause irritation and infection. If they cause a blockage your dog’s symptoms will include: straining to urinate, vomiting and loss of appetite, weakness and lethargy. It is important to contact your vet immediately if this occurs as it is an emergency. Your vet will be able to treat all of these conditions.
